SMC Team MidSouth had a modest lead in the 2015 SMC Sweepstakes Sweepstakes after SS CW was in the log. They cemented their overall first place finish with a strong first place finish in SS SSB, an impressive coast to coast victory.
As was the case last year, Sweepstakes Sweepstakes is not necessarily about big scores. Team Northwest had the same number of 100,000 plus point logs for CW and SSB as MidSouth, and Northwest also had the highest average scores across both contests.
What MidSouth had was the most logs submitted, 46. Over half of their team members submitted a log for one contest or the other, the highest percentage for any of the five teams. The scoring (CW Logs x CW Points) + (SSB Logs x SSB Points) rewards both big point totals from individual stations plus participation as measured by the number of logs submitted, so little pistols make a big difference. Congratulations to the MidSouth members who got on the air! Your victory is even more impressive considering that MidSouth finished dead last in the 2014 SS SS.
Overall, participation in Sweepstakes for SMC was up significantly from 2014. Last year we had 81 CW logs and 90 SSB logs submitted: this year the totals were 99 logs for CW and 101 logs for SSB. Congratulations and thanks to all SMC stations that submitted an SS log. Can we break the 100 log level next year for SS CW?
Scoring is based on claimed scores and the ARRL may still be processing a few paper logs, but it is not believed at this point that any paper logs outstanding will alter the final result.
You can download a summary of the scoring at summary. Corrections should be sent to Tim, K9WX atTimK9WX@gmail.com. The results are now considered final and award certificates will be emailed to each MidSouth team member who submitted a log.
